On Memorial weekend some years ago I went to the Sacramento area to go rafting with a good friend of mine and her husband. We stayed with one of his siblings and I met an inspirational woman named Helen. She showed me her pastel paintings which were wonderful!I wanted to paint just like her.I have always been interested in painting and art but after a few attempts I just knew that it wasn’t in the cards for me.She challenged me to paint a tree that was on a napkin we happened to have with our dinner that night. So returning to my home in Fresno I attempted to do just that, getting myself a small set of pastels. Well, again I didn’t do very well but decided to take an art class at Clovis Adult School. I’ve been painting and continuing those classes ever since! It’s been a wonderful journey for me.I would encourage anyone with the slightest desire of painting to simply pick up a brush or pastel and splash the canvass with inspiration. When creating a piece I have found it is how one looks at something; the lights, darks, textures, shapes…but mainly ones viewpoint. Born in Seattle my parents moved to the Monterey area while I was still an infant and then to various places in the East Bay.I settled in Fresno with my husband and son in 1980.
