SUE PORTER

History: ~ Sue keeps her private life private. But the information listed below, she will share:

Majoring in Art brought Sue to Clovis where she has been teaching painting for the last two and a half decades. Teaching in the very prestigious Clovis School District . Clovis Adult ED. She has established a great reputation of being the best in her field.

Referrals of being a Master Painter, and a Master Teacher was developed by the many students, who studied under Sue, Some of her students have themselves become successful artist. ~ A great tribute to Sue

Teaching: ~ Sue will always greet you with a wide smile and encourage you to take the first steps in painting. No matter how you do in the first few lessons, if you show you are willing to work hard, have a stick with it attitude, a willingness to learn, she, in turn will give you the best of herself.

On the other hand, if you come into her class and sit and wait until she has to tell you every mark to take with a brush, you might as well pack up and go home.

Her philosophy - “You must have a fire in your belly, a willingness to investigate, a greed for knowledge, the ability to absorb as much information as possible and still want more.” Now that's material for a great - up – and - coming artist”!

Art History: ~ Sue will be the first to tell you that she has stood in your shoes at one time or other.

Coming out of college, thinking she was the best darn Artist this side of the Mississippi. “What a rude awakening! ~ “ I put myself out there with the wolves and they ate me”!

“I didn't know at the time, it was every man for himself ( in my case, every women and man). I found out if I wanted to know about shows or art happenings. I would have to ask around and hope that I got the right answers.” Times have changed. Now there is art/artist net-working, and the computer, ~ oh' my. ~ On-line information abound and it is heaven sent.

Awards: ~ “I really have no trouble winning awards. I may not get first place every time, but I do give it a run. I usually win something in the top three.”

Sound like bragging? Not at all. “I worked really hard to win”.

“If you want to learn how to win, then you need to sign up for my workshops, or my classes.”

~ classes are usually full!

Sue says “Be a producer not a person who waits a week or two to paint a painting for competition.” Many paintings gives you choices. And remember, no painting is good enough! It has to be perfect!”

Commissions: ~ “I love helping others finish off a room or an office, with one of my beautiful paintings”.

This summer, “I painted three commissioned paintings and gave two workshops. “Commissions keeps me busy and I love making people happy.”

Happy Painting!
